Abstract The Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE) H - ion source has provided stable output for decades of LANL mission needs, but its maximum beam remained the same at ∼15 mA. A roadblock to improving been a lack thorough understanding internal mechanisms LANSCE source. Ion Source Laser Diagnostic Stand (HLDS) was recently built and commissioned explore these using laser absorption techniques, measure diagnose dynamic cesium densities. density probe is based on resonant continuous wave diode tuned though D 2 line (∼852 nm). diagnostic capabilities HLDS will be reviewed, measurements presented.
